The objective of this project was to prepare a background and feasibility study for fourteen agricultural dams, and based on the results of the economic assessment to further develop the engineering designs for each agricultural dam. The background study was to review: water, soil, climatic and human resources available for each irrigation scheme associated with a dam; existing agriculture activities in the service areas, forecasts of future agricultural practices with and without project scenarios; the present physical condition of the irrigation infrastructure, and assessments of the constraints this would impose on efficiency of the irrigation schemes.
The feasibility study was to analyse at least two rehabilitation options for each dam and recommend necessary improvements based on optimal economic results, and prepare general cost estimates for the recommended options in accordance with the Albanian legislation.
